Sourdough is one of the oldest forms of bread-making — a naturally fermented dough made from just flour, water, and salt. Instead of using commercial yeast, sourdough relies on a wild starter — a living culture of naturally occurring yeast and beneficial bacteria. This slow fermentation process not only creates that signature tangy flavor and chewy texture but also unlocks a range of nutritional benefits.

Why is sourdough better for you?

Sourdough isn’t just delicious — it’s good for you too. Here’s why:

  • Easier to Digest: The long fermentation helps break down gluten and phytic acid, making the bread gentler on your stomach.

  • Gut-Friendly: Natural lactic acid bacteria promote healthy gut flora, similar to other fermented foods.

  • Lower Glycemic Index: Sourdough may help regulate blood sugar levels better than regular bread.

  • More Nutrients: Fermentation improves the availability of key minerals like iron, magnesium, and zinc.

  • No Preservatives: Real sourdough is made without additives, conditioners, or artificial ingredients.

In short, sourdough is real bread — slow, honest, and nourishing. It’s bread the way it was always meant to be.

Yes — you can absolutely freeze sourdough bread, and it freezes beautifully!

Here’s how to do it right:

1. Let it cool completely:
Never freeze warm bread — it can create moisture and lead to freezer burn.

2. Wrap it well:
Wrap the whole loaf (or slices) tightly in plastic wrap or foil, then place it in a freezer-safe bag. This helps protect against freezer burn and keeps it fresh.

3. Label and date it:
Sourdough stays best in the freezer for up to 3 months, though it’s often still great beyond that.

How to Defrost:

Whole loaf: Let it thaw at room temperature (still wrapped) for a few hours, then refresh in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10–15 minutes to revive the crust.

Individual slices: Toast straight from frozen or let thaw briefly before heating.

No. Traditional sourdough made with wheat is not gluten-free, but the fermentation process can reduce the gluten content and make it easier to digest for some people with sensitivities (though not safe for those with celiac disease).

All of our products are made in a home kitchen that handles wheat and may come into contact with other common allergens such as nuts, seeds, and dairy. While we do our best to avoid cross-contamination, we cannot guarantee that any item is completely allergen-free.
